General Information:
The main growing region for this species, as the name would suggest, is the Carpathian Mountain region in Europe. The burl of this tree is of significant value in dash board, furniture and interior design markets, whereas the upper cuts from the boul (the log) are somewhat lesser known and are typically sawn into lumber rather than sliced into veneer. Occasionally we see a parcel of quartered veneer that has been produced from the long wood, but have never seen it flat sliced. This is probably due to the defective hearts of the logs, similar to our own Brown Elm. Coloration ranges from a light to medium tan color into a deep brownish red, with variegated black growth rings scattered through the logs.
