General Information:

Growing Region is West Africa from East Nigeria through Gabon to Zaire.  This species yields both Flat Sliced as well as Quartered veneer grain patterns, with some logs being Rotary sliced.  Those logs which are Rotary sliced are typically called Kevazinga and the grain is quite pattern is quite swirly rather than linear.  The Quarter Sliced version is shown here.

Random logs will also develop figure types such as beeswing, mottle figure, pommele and even a fiddleback figure, though the latter is not as common.  Logs with Pommele figure are rotary sliced in order to bring out the figure on top of the swirly grain.

Also known as African Rosewood.
