The growing region for this species is Japan.  This wood has a look similar to an Ash or an Elm, and at one time was sold as Japanese Ash.  The sapwood can be mostly yellow, where the heartwood tends to be a grey / tan mix.  Veneers are available as flat sliced or quartered, but in the US are used in limited quantity when compared to other parts of the world.
