Not actually a member of the genus Dalbergia, this species grows in Tropical America through Southeastern Brazil. Also known as Pau Ferro, the heartwood is a yellowish to brown/red, even violet in some areas, with dark striations giving it that Rosewood appearance. Sapwood is typically pale yellowish in color. Logs are carefully selected for character and color prior to harvesting and slicing. Mainly produced as flat sliced veneer, you can at times take flat sliced bundles and clip them to yield the straight grain / quartered look. Few logs are of the dimension to actually quarter slice.
