There are numerous species of Red Oak, growing throughout the US, but this one is of most importance to the veneer industry and is found in the North Central States and Appalachian region.

Veneers can be flat sliced, quarter sliced, rift sliced and even rotary sliced for some plywood production.  It’s mainly used as a commercial species rather than a decorative one.
