General Information:
The growing region for Red Elm is most of the Northern and middle US. Sometimes known as Brown Elm or Slippery Elm, it was a species popular within the veneer industry until it was devastated by Dutch Elm disease. For a while it was considered protected and you could be fined for felling a log. Over the past two decades, we’ve seen a resurgence of the species and it is once again legal to harvest and slice. Most producers will quarter slice these logs, unless the heartwood shows promise of being sound. Typically it is not, but of course depends on the log.
We appreciate your visit and hope to hear from you soon!
