General Information:
Also called Brazilian Cherry, its natural growing region extends from Mexico through Paraguay and Bolivia into Northern Brazil. Because the bouls of the tree are basically cylindrical, it lends itself to being harvested for veneer, though still select. The coloration of Jatoba is a reddish brown with intermittent streaks of darker colors. It can be found as flat sliced veneer, another substitute for Honduras Mahogany, or as quartered veneer. Jatoba finishes and takes a stain well, and has recently been used in dyed veneer production as well – typically called Jata.
