The growing region for this species encompasses primarily the Great Lake States of the US, but does extend into the Eastern US as well.

The coloration of this veneer is from a pale whitish yellow to a medium brown grey.  Though an open pore wood like Oak and Ash, the grain is tighter which yields a more elegant look to the veneer.  Like all Elm species, this too was devastated by the Dutch Elm disease.

Today, we see a come back of the species and veneer quality logs are becoming more available.  Don’t mistake, it’s not readily available, but from time to time we will find select logs we purchase for our veneer production.
