General Information:

Mainly from Sri Lanka, this species and the West Indian version are the only two woods worthy of the name Satinwood.  The heartwood is a creamy mustard color to light tan.  Think Grey Poupon.

Almost exclusively sliced on the quarter, this wood typically shows a broken ribbon stripe and at times accompanied with an intermittent beeswing figure.  There is an iridescence found is this species unlike any other.  Used primarily for the finest furniture due to available lengths, on rare occasion a panel length log might be found, commanding of course a very high price, especially when figure.

We appreciate your visit and hope to hear from you soon!
